Policy for using computers and the internet.

Library Technology Policies
The Sedalia Public Library provides internet access in order to meet the
informational needs of the community. The computers are free for patrons to
and they are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The library cannot
guarantee confidentiality or safety on the internet. The library is not responsible
for the content available on the internet and assumes no responsibility for the
use of information obtained from the internet.


Public Computers & Wireless Internet Access Policies:
1. Users must show proper ID or Library card to use the computers. Patrons
may use the computers for a two-hour session. Longer sessions are
acceptable if computers are available.
2. Guest users should present proper ID to use the computers and are limited
to one-hour session per day (exceptions can be made if computers are
available).
3. Wireless internet can be accessed through a passcode found at the desk.
4. Users under 18 must have parental permission on file with their registration
in order to use the public internet computers or to use WIFI. There are
children’s computers (downstairs) that do not have internet access, which
feature educational games that parents should monitor. These programs
are designed for early learners.
5. Anyone using the library’s public access computers, WIFI, hardware,
software or documentation do so at their own risk. The library does not
accept responsibility for injury to or loss of documents or personal devices.
Users are responsible for their own work and for asking for assistance when
needed.
6. Personal files or software cannot be saved on the hard drives of any
library computers. A personal USB should be used to save documents.
7. Only computer equipment and software installed by the Sedalia Public
Library may be used on library computers. Adding, deleting or modifying
existing hardware or software is not permitted.
8. It is illegal to copy software programs protected by copyright laws.
Computer and internet settings should not be changed.
9. Printing from public computers cost 10 cents for Black and White & 25
cents for color. Patrons should pay for all copies, even ones they discard.


Printing from WIFI is available through personal USB.


Internet Provider: Sedalia Public Library provides access to the Internet through
MORE net (Missouri Research and Education Network) an electronic information
network serving public libraries, educational institutions, and governmental
agencies. As a member of MORE net, the library must conform to its Use Policy.
Acceptable Use:
All Internet use shall be for research, education, local, state or governmental
affairs, economic development, or public service.
Unacceptable Use:
It is not acceptable to use the Internet for purposes that violate any Federal or
state law. It is not acceptable to use it in a manner that is harmful or harassing to
others. Any use that disrupts normal network use and service is prohibited. This
would include such things as introducing computer viruses, violation of personal
privacy, and the unauthorized access to protected and private network
resources. It is not acceptable to use MORE net for commercial solicitation of
business.
Filtering and Harmful to Minors Policy:
Access to the internet through the library must be used in a responsible manner,
respecting the rights of others and taking care of the equipment.
As required by the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), all internet accessible computers are filtered with a technology protection measure to
block access to visual depictions of material deemed obscene or child
pornography, or to any material deemed harmful to minors.
Failure to abide by these policies may result in loss of computer privileges.
